Life

Robert Bellarmine (1542-1621) was an Italian Jesuit cardinal and Doctor of the Church, the foremost Catholic apologist of the Counter-Reformation. Born in Montepulciano, Tuscany, he wrote extensively in defense of Church doctrine, served as archbishop of Capua, and composed catechisms used for centuries. He is a patron saint of catechists.
