Life

Toribio de Mogrovejo (1538-1606) was a Spanish canon lawyer who became Archbishop of Lima and one of the great missionary bishops of the Americas. He traversed his vast diocese on foot repeatedly, learned indigenous languages to evangelize the peoples of Peru, and defended them against colonial exploitation. He is honored as the patron of Latin American bishops.
