This memorial commemorates the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three shepherd children, Lucia dos Santos and Francisco and Jacinta Marto, at Fatima, Portugal, between May and October 1917. Mary called for prayer, penance, and devotion to her Immaculate Heart. The shrine at the Cova da Iria remains one of the great Marian pilgrimage sites of the world.
