Life
Bishop of Alexandria and a Doctor of the Church, Athanasius championed the full divinity of Christ against the Arian heresy, first at the Council of Nicaea and then across a turbulent career. His unwavering orthodoxy cost him five separate exiles, earning him the title Father of Orthodoxy. Author of the Life of Anthony, he died in 373 and is honored each May 2.
