Life
Ambrose (c. 340-397) was Bishop of Milan and a Doctor of the Church, acclaimed bishop by popular demand while still an unbaptized catechumen. A fearless defender of orthodoxy against Arianism, he influenced the conversion of Saint Augustine. Patron of beekeepers and of learning for his honeyed eloquence, he is honored on December 7.
