Life

Augustine Zhao Rong (died 1815) was a Chinese soldier who was moved by the faith of an imprisoned missionary bishop he escorted, sought baptism, and became a diocesan priest; he died a martyr in 1815. He is commemorated with 119 companions, the Martyrs of China canonized together by Pope John Paul II in 2000, representing those who died for the faith there from the seventeenth through the twentieth centuries.
