Life
Henry II (973-1024) was Duke of Bavaria and the last Holy Roman Emperor of the Saxon Ottonian dynasty, crowned in Rome in 1014. With his wife Saint Cunegunda he used his political power to reform the Church, founded the Diocese of Bamberg with its great cathedral, and supported monastic renewal. He was canonized in 1146 and remains a model of a ruler who joined governance to prayer.
