Life
Elizabeth (1271-1336) was an Aragonese princess who became queen of Portugal through her marriage to King Denis. Named for her great-aunt Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, she was renowned as a peacemaker who mediated conflicts between warring family members and nations. After her husband's death she became a Franciscan tertiary, living beside the Poor Clare convent she founded at Coimbra and serving the poor.
