Life
Bernardine of Siena (1380-1444) was a Franciscan friar regarded as the greatest Italian preacher of the fifteenth century, drawing vast crowds across the peninsula. As a young man he cared for plague victims in Siena. He popularized devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, displaying the IHS monogram throughout Italy, and was canonized in 1450. He is invoked as a patron of advertisers and communications.
