Life
Fidelis of Sigmaringen was born in Germany in 1578 and practiced law, earning a reputation as an advocate of the poor, before becoming a Capuchin friar. Sent to preach to the Calvinists of the Grisons in Switzerland, he was killed by a hostile mob at Seewis in 1622, becoming the first martyr of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith. He is a patron of lawyers.
