Life
Author of the second and shortest Gospel, drawn largely from the preaching of Saint Peter, Mark the Evangelist accompanied both Peter and Paul on their missions. Tradition holds that he founded the Church of Alexandria and died a martyr around 68. His relics rest in Venice, of which he is patron along with notaries, and his symbol is the winged lion. His feast falls on April 25.
