Life
Francis of Paola (1416-1507) was a Calabrian hermit and mystic who founded the Order of Minims, whose members embrace radical humility and a perpetual Lenten abstinence from meat. Renowned for holiness and reported miracles, he was summoned to France to attend the dying King Louis XI and spent his final years there. He is venerated as a patron of seafarers.
