Life
John of Avila was a sixteenth-century Spanish priest known as the Apostle of Andalusia for his tireless preaching across southern Spain. A master spiritual director whose best-known work is Audi, filia, he guided Saints Teresa of Avila, John of God, and Francis Borgia. Canonized in 1970, he was declared a Doctor of the Church in 2012 and is a patron of diocesan priests.
