Life
Lucy was a young Sicilian woman martyred at Syracuse during the Diocletian persecution in 304. Her name means 'light,' and she has become a symbol of light shining in darkness, especially beloved in Scandinavian countries where her feast brings candlelit processions. Patron of the blind and those with eye diseases, she is honored on December 13.
