Life
Giovanni Battista Montini (1897-1978), elected pope in 1963, guided the Church through the conclusion and implementation of the Second Vatican Council. He issued the encyclical Humanae Vitae and the apostolic exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi, and became the first pope of the modern era to travel widely, visiting six continents. He was canonized by Pope Francis in 2018.
