Life
Peter Chrysologus (c. 380-450) was Archbishop of Ravenna when that city was the capital of the Western Roman Empire. His concise, eloquent homilies earned him the Greek name Chrysologus, meaning golden word; more than a hundred of these short sermons survive. He defended orthodox teaching on the Incarnation and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1729.
