Life
Antonio Ghislieri, a Dominican friar, reigned as Pope Pius V from 1566 to 1572. He vigorously implemented the reforms of the Council of Trent, publishing the Roman Catechism and standardizing the Roman Breviary and Missal. He also organized the Holy League whose fleet defeated the Ottomans at Lepanto in 1571, a victory he attributed to the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary.
