Life
Rita of Cascia (1381-1457) endured an abusive marriage and the murder of her husband, then worked to end the family feud before entering the Augustinian convent at Cascia. In prayer she received a wound on her forehead recalling the crown of thorns, which she bore for the rest of her life. Canonized in 1900, she is venerated as a patron of impossible causes and of abused wives.
