Sharbel Makhluf (1828-1898) was a Lebanese Maronite monk of the Monastery of Saint Maron at Annaya who spent his final twenty-three years as a hermit. Known for extreme austerity, silence, and profound devotion to the Eucharist, he died on Christmas Eve 1898. His tomb became a site of reported miraculous healings, and he was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1977. He is a beloved patron of Lebanon.
